Reimagining Human Resource Management in Perth

“The way things are done around here” is often the byline of toxic leadership.

This line can be negatively used to maintain a workplace culture where people feel undervalued, disempowered, ineffective and disconnected.

The way things are done can be reimagined; it can be positive.

Ten years ago I found myself in a toxic work environment, desperately trying to adapt and conform to the way things were done around there. I was determined to drive change and promote organisational development but lacked support from leadership. I had a track record of being a top performer, but in this work environment I found my confidence waning and I started questioning my abilities. Even with my wealth of experience and aptitude for transforming workplace culture, I didn’t seem to be achieving anything. Working longer and harder didn’t help me answer the question of “what’s missing?”.

After a challenging “chat” with my manager, I made the dramatic decision to redirect my energy, change my priorities and focus on meaningful work. I moved to Cambodia.

I had a strong desire to make a difference within organisations by supporting leadership development and implementing HR strategies that build high performing teams operating in a positive, constructive culture. When an irresistible opportunity arose with an organisation in Cambodia it was too good to pass up, so I said yes. Until that point I hadn’t realised that I had lost clarity and was spinning with no direction. While in Cambodia I was exposed to nultinationals and not-for-profits leading phenomenal humans to achieve amazing things.

Sometimes you don’t see all the effects of a toxic environment until you’re out of it.

In 2016 I finished my NGO contract but remained based overseas while I started freelance HR consulting across Australia and South East Asia. I saw the opportunity for a bespoke solution for organisations committed to creative HR strategies that work to create positive workplace culture.  I wanted to redefine Human Resource Management so on 17 February 2020 we rebranded and launched, the aptly named, Reimagine HR. The launch date is extra special to me as it pays homage to my late father as it’s his birthday.

Launching my own HR consultancy in Perth has been the most rewarding decision that I’ve ever made.

It’s a blessing that I work in an area where there is a genuine need and for which I have a passion and am highly skilled. I get huge satisfaction from working with clients to implement HR strategies that create a positive impact and organisational change. There is no better feeling than seeing my vision for a new, savvy way of doing business come to life by serving others and watching them thrive.
